Physical and mechanical properties
 
PTFE rods (polytetrafluoroethylene rods) have the following physical and mechanical properties:
The relative density is large and almost no water absorption.
It has a very small friction coefficient and exhibits excellent lubricity. Specifically, the static friction coefficient of PTFE is smaller than the dynamic friction coefficient, and the friction coefficient remains almost unchanged from ultra-low temperature to melting point.
However, PTFE has a low hardness and is easily worn by other materials. If a layer of PTFE film is formed on the surface of the abrasive, the wear of PTFE can be reduced to a certain extent.

Thermal properties

The thermal properties of PTFE rods are as follows:
PTFE's thermal stability is extremely outstanding among engineering plastics. Between 200°C and the melting point, its decomposition rate is extremely slow and the amount of decomposition is also extremely small. After heating at 200°C for one month, the amount of decomposition is less than one millionth, which can be ignored.
PTFE is still not brittle at -250°C and can be used for a long time at -250~260°C.

Electrical properties

The electrical properties of PTFE rods include:
PTFE is a highly non-polar material with extremely excellent dielectric properties. When the temperature is above 0°C, the dielectric properties are not affected by frequency and temperature, nor by humidity and corrosive gases.
The volume resistivity and surface resistivity of PTFE are the highest among all engineering plastics. Even if it is immersed in water for a long time, it will not drop significantly. In air with 100% relative humidity, the surface resistivity remains unchanged.
When the crystallinity of PTFE is between 50% and 80%, the dielectric strength is almost independent of the crystallinity and has the lowest dielectric constant. PTFE has excellent arc resistance.

Corrosion resistance

PTFE rods have excellent corrosion resistance and can withstand the effects of all strong acids, strong oxidants, strong reducing agents and various organic solvents except molten alkali metals, fluorinated media and temperatures above 300°C.

Application fields

Due to the above performance characteristics, PTFE rods are widely used in various fields, such as:
In chemical equipment, it can be used to make linings and coatings for reactors, distillation towers and anti-corrosion equipment.
In machinery, it can be used as self-lubricating bearings, piston rings, oil seals and sealing rings, etc. The self-lubricating property can reduce the wear and heat of machine parts and reduce power consumption.
